Maghriboselache mohamezanei

Maghriboselache mohamezanei is a new symmoriiform chondrichthyan represented by several partly articulated skeletons, including three-dimensional cranial specimens AA.MEM.DS.12 and PIMUZ A/I 5159; the cited matrix places it with Cladoselache in an early symmoriiform grouping, while alternative analyses can recover symmoriiforms differently.

Maghriboselache mohamezanei is documented from the Thylacocephalan Layer at localities in the southern Maïder and Tafilalt regions of the eastern Anti-Atlas, Morocco; this represented sample does not establish a global distribution.

Maghriboselache preserves a marine depositional context, digestive-tract and liver traces, a high-aspect-ratio tail and large pectoral fins; PIMUZ A/I 5155 contains a more or less articulated small actinopterygian stomach content approximately 40 mm long, recording one feeding event, while broader diet, habitat preference, locomotor performance and trophic guild remain unresolved.

Maghriboselache has a broad cartilage-enclosed snout with large, widely separated nasal capsules, a high-aspect-ratio lunate tail and strap-like pectoral-fin radials; the holotype neurocranium and referred three-dimensional material document these features separately.

The displayed 369.5–369 Ma interval is the late early to early middle Famennian Thylacocephalan Layer sample for Maghriboselache mohamezanei and is not a global species FAD, LAD or crown-chondrichthyan origin.
