The early Carnian Bobosaurus holotype combines nothosaurian and plesiosaurian features and was interpreted near the plesiosaur lineage, but it is an older uncertain candidate rather than diagnostic Plesiosauria; the articulated Rhaetian Rhaeticosaurus provides the older secure comparison used here.
